Our Farmers. Our Future

"Our Farmers, Our Future"- That's the tagline for 2012 The Year of the Farmer

I was reminded today that 2012 will be Australian National Year of the farmer.
The message presented by this great program headed up with famous names like Glenn McGrath and the Governor-General of Australia Ms Quentin Bryce AC aims to promote farmers and farming practices and to remind the general public about the roles that Farmers and farming industries and communities have in their everyday lives whether they realise it or not.

Check out this video below by Cricketing Legend and Australian Year of the Framer Ambassador Glenn McGrath:

As with everything it is vitally important that we get out there and show Australia the story of the farmer. AYOF presents us with that ability, so we can tell our story and show our involvement in making Australia run.

I'm sure as further information and plans come to the table we will all be able to play a role in what looks to be a great year. So why not attend and event, host an event or even just let your voice be heard and tell your story and let everyday Aussies see how much of a role we play in their lives.

If you are involved or looking at getting involved, give me a yell I'd be interested in learning more about the program......

  1. Everything he said is so accurate, so why do we continue to mine prime agricultural lands. the farmers have no say in mining. companies just come and take land and no-one can do anything about. People would have you believe that after mining, land is restored to its original state and is as productive as before. This is wrong once all the layers of soil are disturbed is it never as productive as before. This issue needs to be addressed, otherwise we WILL face food shortages

  2. Thankyou to you, very well spoken I too am curious to see whether this program will see better recognition of farmers and land and land access rights as far as who has the greater control (the farmer or the miner). I am hoping an occasion such as this will bring farming further back into the spotlight and let people wake up and realise that what they are calling the next amazing thing in energy is far from renewable, is highly destructive and puts the same amount, if not more CO2 back into the atmosphere just to retrieve the stuff.

  3. I know many graziers/farmers who, just plainly do not want any mines or miners to come anywhere near their place. it's wrong that people can come onto your place drill holes and just leave (often leaving gates open and interfering with your business) how would city folk like people to come and drill holes in the floor of their house. We already have food shortages and there are many viable Energy alternatives to what we already use, but the Energy/oil companies practically own the government, so I don't expect any change soon
